Head of Growth Recruitment
A Head of Growth owns a number, usually new customers or revenue, and moves it by running tests across marketing, product and sales. AI tools can now write ad variants, build landing pages and segment audiences quickly. So the hard part of the job is picking the right tests and being honest about what the results say.
How is AI changing the Head of Growth role?
When a test takes an afternoon, it’s easy to run fifty and learn nothing. Strong growth leaders keep a clear hypothesis, a control group and a decision at the end. They also know customers notice when every email starts to sound the same.
What should a Head of Growth be able to show you?
Growth candidates are often good at telling a story around a chart. Check the chart. A strong one can:
- Walk you through a test that failed and what they did next.
- Show how they’ve used AI to speed up testing without flooding customers with noise.
- Work across product and sales as well as paid media.
- Tell growth that lasts from growth that was bought.
Does a job ad work for a Head of Growth role?
A growth ad tends to bring many applicants and few who’ve owned a real number. We headhunt rather than recruit, with no keyword screening, because a filter counting AI tools on a CV can’t tell you who ran good experiments. See how the search works, or compare a CMO or Head of Digital hire.
How does Headhuntly run a Head of Growth search?
Like every Headhuntly executive search, it’s exclusive: one client, one role, complete focus. Before we approach anyone, we define three profiles, your company, the role and the person. If the brief isn’t settled yet, we help you set the KPIs and a 30, 60, 90 day framework first.
Then we go after people who aren’t looking. Based on the Gold Coast, hunting Australia-wide. Overseas too, when the right person is there. A typical search takes 3 to 6 weeks.
We charge 15% of the placed candidate's base salary plus super, plus an engagement fee, the placement fee on signed employment contract, the engagement fee upfront, which we walk you through on the first call. If the placement doesn’t work out during probation, we start the hunt again. The detail is on how it works.

Questions, answered
What's the difference between a Head of Growth and a CMO?
A CMO owns the brand and the whole marketing function. A Head of Growth owns a number, usually customers or revenue, and moves it through quick tests wherever the lever happens to be. Many businesses hire one before the other.
How do you test whether a Head of Growth is genuinely AI-fluent?
Ask how AI changed the way they test, and for a result that looked good and wasn't. A list of tools without a result attached is a warning sign.
How long does it take to hire a Head of Growth?
A typical search runs 3 to 6 weeks. Agreeing the growth number the role owns, and the budget to test with, speeds it up.
